UBS closes it's doors on Houston

Well, my time at UBS is ending soon. UBS, taking into account the current economic situation in the world, has decided to bow out of the commodities business. The Houston IT offices are largely (like, 99%) devoted to that, and they've decided to close them. This means that I will soon have no job.

It's not as bad as all that, and I have to say that for being laid off, I don't feel nearly as nervous or let down as I thought. After all, it's nothing I did that led to this, and I would have been here a long time otherwise. I'm looking at it as an opportunity in many ways. This is probably the first time I've been able to look at my career on the whole and start figuring out if I'm doing what I want to do.

Technology is my life and my best strength professionally. I think it's safe to say that whatever I'm doing a month from now, it'll be in technology. And since I have no desire to move, I can see myself in one of many different technology sectors in Houston. If you know of an opportunity, I'd be grateful to hear about it.

Not many details yet, but they'll come soon enough. In the meantime, I'm fine.
